In order for theatre to survive in Elizabethan England, professional groups had to:

  a. hire actors and theatre technicians on a temporary basis for each play.
 b. use a touring house, moving productions from space to space in order to capitalize on ticket sales for one theatrical performance.
 c. have a large variety of plays in stock to keep their limited audiences coming back.
 d. borrow and rent costumes for each production.
