As the in-house critic for companies and theatres, a dramaturg's responsibilities might include assisting playwrights with new scripts. He/she might conduct research for the director and actors. Finally, a dramaturg may do audience outreach, creating lobby displays or study guides, writing a note in the program, or moderating talkback sessions. Some dramaturgs serve as the literary manager of a theatre, reading and evaluating plays, recommending plays to the artistic director, and helping with play development.
