Feedback to correct answer: Underlying issues in the client social worker re-lationship can undermine the success for the helping process. Clients may disen-gage for many reasons, such as having difficulty facing real issues that drive dys-functional behaviors; embarrassment about disclosing information being asked by the social worker; difficulty confronting the social worker regarding upsetting top-ics; or a lack of genuine interest in the helping process (common in mandatory clients). Understanding the signs of disengagement early alerts the social worker to selecting specific skills to draw the client in and re-engage the helping process.
