Ans: Helicases separate duplex DNA into single strands using energy provided by the hydrolysis of ATP. In DNA replication, a helicase proceeds at a replication fork to expose template strands for DNA synthesis. Single-strand binding (SSB) proteins bind to the denatured DNA strands and prevent them from reforming the duplex before DNA synthesis occurs.
