On a regular basis, the casino will send employees to each table game and replace the drop box. The drop process is performed by the Cage Operations department with Security. The group of Cage Operations employees who do the drop are called the drop team. The drop team pushes a wheeled cage which contains empty drop boxes. They are accompanied by a security officer who ensures that no one robs the drop team and to be sure that none of the drop team members takes any of the drop boxes. The drop team removes the drop box from a table game and replaces it with an empty one. The drop box is placed in the cage.

The frequency of this process is determined by the level of activity in the casino. Las Vegas casinos will do a drop every shift while a smaller Native American casino may do a drop only once a day. Regardless of the size or level of activity,

a drop is done at least once a day. The drop team follows the same pattern each time to ensure that all drop boxes are collected. They will start at one end of the casino and work their way to the other.

The drop boxes are then taken to the countroom in the vault where the contents are counted and recorded. The data is recorded in the financial system and shows the drop or revenue for each of the tables and for each game. In reality, the drop for table games only counts the buy-in of each customer at the table. There is no tracking of each bet placed.

In the case of roulette, the amount wagered by customers is not the drop. In order to track each bet, the dealer would have to note each person's bet and enter it into the accounting system. This would be cumbersome and slow the speed of play. Gamblers would grow impatient and find another game to play. A customer can only bet with chips on the roulette wheel. Cash is too large and different bets would overlap one another. It would be too difficult to keep all the bets separate. Plus a bill would lie on several different numbers or combinations. It would be difficult to determine which bet the gambler intended to make. Chips solve these problems.

Hold is the difference between drop and paidouts. Drop is the revenue a casino collects in all gambling activity. The money that customers wager becomes revenue for the casino. An approximation is used under some circumstances. Regardless, drop is gaming revenue.

Paidouts is the money paid to customers who win. Obviously, gamblers occasionally win and must be paid. Again, the casino does not track each payout and an approximation is substituted. However, paidouts is money going to winning customers. Hold is the difference between the amount of money wagered by customers and the amount paid for winning bets. Quite literally, it is the money the casino holds onto after the gaming activity ceases.

The fill is requested of the cashier cage using a fill slip. The fill slip is electronically communicated to the cage. The cage assembles the chips for a security guard to deliver to the table game or the coins for the slot employee to take to the electronic gaming device. Fills are treated as payouts. The primary reason a table game is low on chips or electronic gaming devices are low on coins is because customers are winning more than they are losing. In other words, the casino is paying out. Therefore, fill slips are counted as part of paid outs. Conversely, occasionally table games have an excess of chips.

In order to bring the total down to a more manageable amount, a supervisor will authorize a credit. He/She will electronically communicate to the cashier cage a credit slip. The chips are transferred to the cashier cage by a security officer. Credit slips are treated as a reduction to paid outs. Drop on table games is strictly the cash exchanged for chips. Only the money in the drop box is counted as drop. Since an excess of chips means that customers are losing much more than they are winning, the casino is gaining back what it paid out in winning bets. Therefore, the amount of a credit slip is subtracted from the total of fill slips to arrive at the paid out amount.

Customers do not see a stop on a reel. They see icons or blanks. Typically, three identical icons in a row win a payout. Suppose for a second that the only orange on the first reel is at stop 1 . Also suppose that the only orange on the second reel is at stop 1, but there are two oranges on the third reel. The oranges are at stop 4 and 8 of the third reel. The possible winning combinations for oranges are 114 and 118
