Analysis skills  require that skills mangers must have the ability to see through the tremendous amount of information in limited time and determine if any patterns or similarities emerge. The more knowledge the manager has about the industry, the easier it becomes to identify these emerging patterns.

Synthesizing skills  require that the manager be able to take the key observations or patterns that have been emerging and try to make sense out of them in terms of a larger, more integrated identification of the forces driving change.
