Q. 2

The variables, quantitative or qualitative, whose effect on a response variable is of interest are called __________.

  A) the experimental units B) factors
  C) the treatments D) the factor level

Q. 3

A computer package was used to generate the following printout for estimating the mean sale price of homes in a particular neighborhood.

  X = sale_price

   SAMPLE MEAN OF X = 46,400
   SAMPLE STANDARD DEV = 13,747
    SAMPLE SIZE OF X = 15
   CONFIDENCE = 90

   UPPER LIMIT = 52,650.6
   SAMPLE MEAN OF X = 46,400
   LOWER LIMIT = 40,149.4

  At what level of reliability is the confidence interval made?
  A) 45 B) 90 C) 10 D) 55

Q. 4

  A) 3.55 B) 12.6 C) 42 D) 6.481

Q. 5

Describe how you will use a random number table to conduct this simulation.

  What will be an ideal response?

Q. 6

The variable measured in the study is called __________.

  A) the treatment B) the response variable
  C) the factor level D) a sampling unit

Q. 7

Before a new phone system was installed, the amount a company spent on personal calls followed a normal distribution with an average of 900 per month and a standard deviation of 50 per month.

  Refer to such expenses as PCE's (personal call expenses). Find the point in the distribution below which 2.5 of the PCE's fell.
  A) 877.50 B) 998.00 C) 802.00 D) 22.50

Q. 8

Private colleges and universities rely on money contributed by individuals and corporations for their operating expenses. Much of this money is invested in a fund called an endowment, and the college spends only the interest earned by the fund.

  A recent survey of eight private colleges in the United States revealed the following endowments (in millions of dollars): 88.9, 56, 249.3, 497, 124.7, 157.6, 108.9, and 222.8. What value will be used as the point estimate for the mean endowment of all private colleges in the United States?
  A) 1505.2 B) 215.029 C) 8 D) 188.15

Q. 9

If x is a binomial random variable, calculate  for n = 100 and p = 0.8.

Answer to #5

Since 10 of the batteries come off of the production line defective and 90 of the batteries come off of the line in working condition, we can look at one digit at a time. Assign the digits: 0=defective; 1-9 = working. Start at the first digit in the first row, go across one digit at a time, looking for the digits 1-9, which are indicative of working batteries. Count the number of times the digits 1-9 come up until you have 10. Repeated digits are allowed. Count the number of digits that the trial took to obtain 10 of the desired digits.
