A racing car accelerates uniformly from rest along a straight track.  This track has markers spaced at equal distances along it from the start, as shown in Figure 2.2.  The car reaches a speed of 140 km/h as it passes marker 2.

Whereabouts on the track was the car when it was travelling at half this speed, i.e. at 70 km/h?

V1i = 0

Vf1 = 140 km/hr

Now

Vf1^2 = V1i^2 + 2ax1

140^2 = 0 + 2*a*x1 =========> a = 9800/x1

Then for V2 find x

Vf2 = 70 km/hr

Vi2 = 0

70^2 = 0 + 2*a*x2 =======> 70^2 = 2*(9800/x1)*x2

x2 = 0.25*x1

So, car will be before marker 1
