A Plant Hardiness Map is used to determine the type of nursery crop that will grow at
a given location based on temperature. The Plant Hardiness Map identifies 11 zones by
average minimal temperatures in each zone. It also identifies 12 different zones based
on the average number of days above 86F, because some plants can tolerate low
temperatures but cannot tolerate extended summers and high temperatures.
