Answer to q. 1

Because the sun strikes the earth at an oblique angle because of the tilt of the earths axis,
some portions of the earth do not receive equal sunlight. The lower latitudes, near the
equator, receive a more uniform amount of sunlight, resulting in a more constant warm
temperature. This also results in the polar areas receiving less sunlight, and the sunlight that
does reach i, has to pass through thicker layers of atmosphere.
The same phenomenon also causes seasonality.

Answer to q. 2

Fire frees the minerals locked in organic matter, thus making those minerals available to
other organisms.
Fire removes plant cover and exposes the soil, thus stimulating seed germination and the
growth of shade-intolerant plants.
Fire removes deadwood and other plant litter, thus preventing more destructive fires from
occurring at a later time.
