Polyploidy is the condition in which an individual has multiple chromosome sets and is rare
in animals, although common in plants (and linked with speciation events). Aneuploidy is a genetic abnormality involving the presence or absence of one chromosome. This is likely the
result of nondisjunction and includes Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) and Turner syndrome (a
monosomy). Nondisjunction is the condition in which homologous chromosomes fail to
separate during anaphase I of meiosis and is linked to the conditions mentioned in the
previous sentence.
