- Stress triggers the same response as an infection; but it begins in the body as the brain is signaled that the body is sick
1. Heart disease: the liver is shut down when sympathetic nervous system activated; can't clean out cholesterol and plaque from bloodstream
2. Cancer: immune system is suppressed under stress, preventing body from detecting/fighting cancer
3. Type 2 diabetes: stress causes weight gain which contributes to diabetes
