Sometimes people tell us in a direct way what they think of us.  Frequent negative evaluations from significant others may be internalized, thereby having a negative impact on one's self-esteem.  If your father consistently says to you, "You are not very bright!" you are learning about yourself.  Learning about yourself in this way is called:
   a. direct verbal feedback
   b. social comparison
   c. upward comparison
   d. all options given are correct
   e. downward comparison

Social comparison is when people compare themselves to others to obtain information about themselves and their abilities. Not sure how that applies to the comments the father is making. Hence b though e don't work.
