I am having trouble finding an example of a beneficial frame shift mutation. I see a lot of resources about the negatives, such as Tay-Sachs disease but so far nothing beneficial. Because everything past where the mutation occurs is effected, the change is significant.

According to WikiPedia,

"Currently there are attempts to use frameshift mutations beneficially in the treatment of diseases, changing the reading frame of the amino acids."

"For example, induction of frameshift mutation has been used to make certain bacteria capable of producing nylonase, an enzyme that can degrade nylon."

But generally you're right, they're detrimental to a an organism.
