In Drosophila (fruit flies), pink eyes (P), curled wings (C), a hairy body (H), and an ebony body (E) are determined by genes located on the same chromosome.

Gene Combination   Recombination Frequency
E/H   41.7%
C/H   18.2%
E/P   22%
H/P   19.7%
C/P   1.5%

The distance between genes C and E is     Answer
 map units.

In Drosophila (fruit flies), jammed wings (J), daughterless (da), curly wings (Cy), star eyes (S), and a black body (b) are determined by genes located on the same chromosome.

Gene Combination   Recombination Frequency
J and Cy   34.9
J and da   1.7
S and Cy   4.8
Cy and b   42.4
S and da   38
b and S
47.2

What is the map unit distance between b and da?

Answer

The distance between genes C and E

=22+1.5

=23.5%

but 1%=1 map

C/E=23.5map units

to arrive at this you need to largest RF/combination. this means that all other possible combination lie within this range.

this is how you arrange the combinations

largest=E/H

it will start with H and end with E

H<----->C<--->P<---->E

RF:18.2---1.5----22

to get H/P=18.2+1.5=19.7

C/E=1.5+22

=23.5map units
