Maternalism is an ideology revolving around the quality or state of having or showing maternal instincts. It incorporates a common idea of femininity and applies this to how women are involved in society. This led to reforms that provided help to mothers and children. Some results of this were the Children's Bureau, legislation regarding child and women's labor and efforts to improve maternal and child health.
