The deprivation model suggests that the inmate subculture and its accompanying inmate code is the result of various deprivations that inmates suffer because of their imprisonment. What are some of those deprivations and is it possible to avoid some of them in order to provide a more normal environment? With a more normal environment, would some of the negative consequences of the inmate subculture be avoided?
