Answers may vary, but should contain the following for full credit:
Problem-focused coping is an attempt to combat stress directly, either by eliminating the source of a stressor or by changing one's behavior in stressful situations. In both cases the stress and the stressor are the target of coping efforts. In emotion-focused coping a person tries to change the emotional response to a stressful situation, such as seeing a hidden benefit in an unfortunate circumstance. The focus here is on regulating the emotional aftermath of the stress.
