Answers may vary, but should contain the following for full credit:
Metacognition is "thinking about thinking" and describes the ability to accurately assess your own knowledge and skills and to self-regulate your learning. For example, before taking an exam, you can ask yourself, "How did I prepare for this exam?" After the exam scores are returned, you can then ask yourself, "Did I get the score I wanted, and if not, what can I do differently to better prepare for the next exam?" Research indicates that improving metacognitive skills can lead to improvements in learning. Conversely, poor metacognitive skills can actually result in lower exam performance.
