The Wall Street Journal reported that there is evidence that Mac users are shown more expensive hotel prices when using Orbitz than PC users. Perform a hypothesis test to determine if the median hotel price for Mac users on Orbitz is higher than for PC users. The following data summarizes the sample statistics for hotel rates using Orbitz for PC and Mac users..

Perform this hypothesis test using α = 0.05.

H0: Hotel bookings for Mac users through Orbitz are not higher than PC users
H1: Hotel bookings for Mac users through Orbitz are higher than PC users

Using Mac users W = 5.5 + 10 + 14 + 15 + 19 + 20 + 21 + 22 + 23.5 + 23.5 + 25 + 26 = 224.5.
nT = n1 + n2 = 12 + 14 = 26
zW =  =  =  = 3.21
p-value = P(x ≥ zW )
p-value = P(x ≥ 3.21) = 1.0 - 0.9993 = 0.0007
Because our p-value (0.0007) is less than α = 0.05, we reject the null hypothesis. We have enough evidence to conclude that the median hotel price for Mac users on Orbitz is higher than for PC users.
