An 18-year-old presents with high fever, history of repeated respiratory infection, and exhaustion.  A complete blood count (CBC) reveals pancytopenia. After additional diagnostic work, the client is diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). How would the nurse explain the etiology of the pancytopenia to the client and his family?
1. "The leukemic cells are crowding out the normal cells in your bone marrow."
2. "Your bone marrow is failing."
3. "Your body is making too much fatty tissue in your bone marrow."
4. "Your blood cells are being killed by antigen-antibody complexes."
