First, add 4 and 5 to get 9.

We are told Sam received 21,000, so:

4/9 * unknown amount  = 21000

\(\frac{21000}{\frac{4}{9}} = \text{Unknown amount}\)

Thus, the unknown amount is 47250.

For his sister, we take 5/9 * 47250 = 26250

Does that help?
