I didn't realize that I answered most of this question already in my response found here: https://biology-forums.com/index.php?topic=2057904 ! You can use those ideas here too, but also mention how mutations arise. For example, mutations can occur spontaneously during DNA replication, meiosis, or as a result of exposure to certain environmental factors, such as radiation or certain chemicals. They can have different effects on genes and can range from being harmless to causing significant changes in the protein encoded by the gene.
