Some people have thought that a big solution to water shortages in the southwestern United States is to create a large canal between the Great Lakes and the southwest. Why is this suggestion probably not sustainable?
A) The water would evaporate from open canals before it makes it to the southwest.
B) It would be too costly.
C) It could deplete water levels in the Great Lakes.
D) Water in the Great Lakes is needed for local irrigation in the Midwest.
