There are differences in the way we conduct laboratory and internet-based research.  The differences include the fact that
a.  actually carrying out the study on the internet requires less time on the part of the experimenter than a laboratory study does.
b.  for internet studies, the researcher has to be available more frequently because internet users can access the research on the internet just about any time of the day, and the researcher needs to be available to answer questions.
c.  laboratory research generally leads to more accurate recording of data because paper data sheets are right in front of the researcher who can enter them into a computerized database.
d.  because anybody can access the research on the internet, an investigator can’t be certain that the sample is representative of the population, whereas this isn’t a problem with laboratory studies.
