Using the DSM-IV-TR to diagnose individuals with psychological disorders affords psychologists and psychiatrists the ability to use the same language pertaining to behaviors. Mental health professionals need to be using the same language so that they can make sure they are “on the same page” when it comes to diagnosing. Because they use this language, the path for consulting on cases, research, treatment, and the possibility for prevention is now clear and understandable.
