In March, 2008, the U.S. Congress passed the Second Chance Act.  The bill authorized the
Expenditure of approximately $400 million dollars in federal funds to reduce recidivism. 
List and define four of the programs and discuss how they can or do impact recidivism.

Education and job training while in prison. Mentoring programs for adults and juveniles leaving Confinement. Drug treatment (including family-based treatment) for incarcerated parents during and after incarceration.  Alternatives to incarceration for parents convicted of nonviolent drug offenses.  Supportive programming for children of incarcerated parents.  Early release for certain elderly prisoners convicted of nonviolent offenses.  Reentry research through research awards to study parole and post-supervision revocation and related community safety issues.
