The Hardy-Weinberg principle says that allele frequencies in a population don't automatically change over time, but we they usually do. So why is the Hardy-Weinberg principle useful? Please explain, thank you.

Just a conjecture but, it could determine frequencies of an autosomal or sex-linked recessive disorder (like muscular dystrophy), and according to its prevalence, one could decide the amount of research dollars to allocate for that desease...one wouldn't need to know how it's going to change in the future, just how it's working now.
