please give me as much info as possible(from scratch), i really really want to live and work in new york for a multitude of reasons.. please give me ideas on what well paid jobs i could expect.  i would gladly undertake further study(i.e. Ph.d) or training to secure a good job

New York is a tough place to work my dear friend, my advice come upstate a bit and get your feet wet and a reputation then go down there. You will need all the cred you can get. In all honesty the real place you want to be for engineering and science is outside of Albany there are alot of Fortune 500 tech companies out here that need people. I have lived in NY all of my life and the City pales in comparison to the rest of the State IMO.
