The YCJA gives the provinces greater authority to establish youth justice policies.  For example, it allows provinces to determine:
   a. the length of custodial sentences
   b. whether judges or corrections officials will decide the level of custody
c. whether judges or corrections officials will decide the length of a custodial sentence
