Alternative Splicing is like choosing different exons to make mRNA. After DNA turns to RNA in transcription, which is pre-mRNA, it goes through processing. Enzyme Splicesome can choose different exons to connect together to make mRNA. It's the different combination and different exon site that gives variability in protein shape and structure

Alternative splicing occurs when enzymes clip segments out of the middle or off the ends of an mRNA strand and then splice the remaining piece back together. It is necessary because mRNA contains segments with exons (encode proteins) and introns (noncoding region). The introns of the mRNA are removed before it leaves the nucleus.
