3."In exercising skeletal muscle, NADH production exceeds the oxidative capacity of the respiratory chain.  This results in an elevated NADH/NAD+ ratio, favoring reduction of pyruvate to lactate."  In the process NADH is oxidized to NAD+.

Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews - Biochemistry.  3rd edition by Champe, et. al.  p. 101.
