For each of the following studies, write out the likely null hypothesis (Ho) and the likely alternative hypothesis (Ha). For each part, also indicate whether you have written a one-tailed or two-tailed alternative hypothesis.

A)  A forensic cognitive psychologist wondered whether repetition of false information would increase the tendency to develop false memories on average.
B)  A clinical psychologist studied whether structured assessments of therapy would lead to a better outcome, on average, among clients with depression.
C)  A developmental psychologist studied whether teaching a second language to children from birth would impact children’s ability to speak their native language.

2. Now consider, for each of the studies described above, the following conclusions. Indicate for each study whether the researcher has made a Type 1 or Type 2 error.

a. The forensic cognitive psychologist concludes that repetition of false information does lead to the development of false memories, but in reality there is no effect.
b. The clinical psychologist decides that the structured assessments of therapy do not lead to better outcomes for depression clients; in actuality, assessments do lead to better outcomes.
c. The developmental psychologist decides that teaching a second language positively impacts the ability to speak a native language, but really, there is no improvement in native language ability.
