What is the functional advantage of having more gyri and sulci?

Mammalian brains have 30x more gyri and sulci in their cerebrums than other creatures..what is the functional advantage of having more gyri and sulci?

I'm assuming having more surface area allows our brain to have more space for structures?

That increases surface area. I believe the more folds, the more intelligent the species.
