How do you solve an equation with two variables? For example: 6y+12x=4
I don't get how to solve this types of equations... PLEASE HELP!

isolate the variable y

by subtracting 12x from both sides.
6y = -12x +4

divide both sides by 6

getting y = -2 + 2/3

You need 2 equations if there is 2 variables

It is impossible to find a numerical value for x and y unless you have another equation. You can isolate y or x but you can't solve for them.
Example y=(4-12x)/6

You can't "solve" a single equation with two variables, at least not with a single number.  If you choose a value for y (say y = 0) you can find a value for x (12x = 4, x = 1/3).  You need two equations to find values for both x and y that are unique.  If you are given just a single equation like that, you can find many solutions by just picking a value for one variable and solving for the other.  You can even graph all of the solutions on a graph paper, and in this case you will actually get a straight line.

Leave all but the y variable on 1 side and solve for y by dividing by the coefficient in front of y.

Ex.

6y+12x=4 = 6y=4-12x = y=(4-12x)/6 = y=(2-6x)/3

Isolate one of the variables, probably y, by subtracting 12x from both sides (6y=-12x+4), and then dividing both sides by six (y=-2x+(2/3). Then plug in values for x, and solve for y. Should use with a table, and use x=-2,-1,0,1,2 If x=1, y=-2(0)+2/3

First divide by 2 to make it simpler:  3y + 6x = 2.  The graph is a straight line and every point on that line corresponds to a solution, so there are infinitely many solutions.  Let x be any number you like, say k, then solve for y and get y = (2-6k) / 3.  So picking some values for k, k=0 gives the solution x = 0, y = 2/3, picking k=1 gives the solution x=1, y=-4/3, picking k=2 gives the solution x=2, y=-10/3, etc.
