For example, on the periodic table nitrogen says 7N.  7 is the atomic number.  How can u tell by the number 7 how many electrons, protons and neutrons the element has?

count how many rows down the element is and that is how many e- are in the outermost ring and how many rings there are total. then we know that each ring has octate in the other rings. 99.9% sure. just finished chem 1a and that was the only part i did understand.

Protons - the atomic number equals the number of protons
Electrons - equal to the number of protons provided the element has no charge
Neutron - Atomic Mass (rounded to the nearest whole number) minus number of protons

the atomic number indicates the total number of protons the element has .the no. of protons is equal to the no. of electrons  as the atom is neutral. Now the mass no. gives the total of protons +neutrons.so the mass no.- the atomic no. gives the neutron no.

Number or electrons =  Number of Protons = Atomic Number

For number of neutrons u need to deduct the atomic number from the massnumber. For nitrogen the mass number is 14 hence

Electrons = 7
Protons = 7
NEutrons = 7

The atomic number IS the number of protons an element has in its atomic nucleus. So nitrogen has 7 protons.

The number of neutrons can vary, depending on the isotope. But  generally speaking.

No of Neutrons = Atomic Mass - Atomic Number

The number of electrons is even trickier to explain, as this can vary between atoms depending on its 'valency'. If the charge of the atom is neutral. Than the number of electrons is Equal to the number of protons. But if there is a charge of +1 then there is one more proton than there is electrons. If it is -1 than there is one more electron than there are protons.

Since the atomic number of N is 7, your number of protons is also 7.

Think about the protons being positively charged. Electrons are negatively charged and since atoms aren't supposed to have a charge...

You would also have 7 electrons. 7protons + (-7)electrons = 0

Neutrons have no charge. They just add weight to the atom. So, since the atomic mass of N is 14.

14 = 7protons + ?Neutrons

Leaving you with 7 neutrons.

Atomic number=Z=Number of protons or electrons present in the atom.
If Z=7,then
electrons=7,protons=7
For the elements whose Z is below 20
Atomic mass=double of atomic number.
Atomic mass=Number of protons+nuetrons,So
Number of nuetrons=Atomic mass-No of protons
Then,Number of nuetrons=14-7=7
