1. there is a circular DNA in mitochondria, like prokaryotic organisms.
2. the size of mitochondria is very similar to the size of bacteria.
3. the inner membrane of mitochondria contains the proteins related to respiration, which is functionally similar to the way bacteria do the respiration.
Remember that the bacteria have no mitochondria.
