Hypotonic: when out side concentration is less than cellular concentration. Then water goes in and cells may burst

hypotonic solutions have a lower concentration of solutes compared to another solution or to a cell

Remember, hyper- means above or more than. Hypo- means below or less than.

A HYPERTONIC SOLUTION is the one whose concentration ( amount of solute) is higher than a solution it's compared with.
A cell being put in such a solution undergoes 'exosmosis' and finally shrinks.

A HYPOTONIC SOLUTION is the one whose concentration ( amount of solute) is lower than a solution it's compared with.
A cell being put in such a solution undergoes 'endosmosis' and finally bursts.

Hypertonic solution: A solution with a higher salt concentration than in normal cells of the body and the blood. As opposed to an isotonic solution or a hypotonic solution.
