A billayer precipitate is formed: green at the botom, followed by an orange layer. The rest of the solution is colourless. I used fenolftalein as an indicator.

I think it may be Iron Oxide which is rust. the iron combines with the Oxygen in the water. and Iron III Chloride which is the green at the bottom.
cause running a current through water breaks up water into Hydrogen and Oxygen(electrolysis) the HCl also dissociates into their ions
