The Alien and Sedition Acts were passed to protect American liberty.  Because it was at war, did the Adams administration need to be protected from public criticism?  Or was it more important to protect the public's right to criticize the government?  By passing the Alien and Sedition Acts, did Congress attack and reduce liberty in the name of protecting it?  Discuss.
