I heard this was true from a few people, but wanted some more input. If so, why is that?

You're correct, but it's not only that. Like I mentioned in another post, most university degrees are a stepping stone for particular career options. With bio, you can get into medicine, physiotherapy, teaching, lab work, etc. Depends on what you want to do and how high in the rankings you want to get once you get it. I know college professors with a single degree in biology, but are getting paid tremendous amounts because of their experience in the field (lab work, teach high school, etc). There are very few careers you can get straight out of university, unless you get into nursing, and that also requires further training in most cases. Unless you want to become a tree planter, I suggest you continue your training in the field and make use of all the interesting stuff you learn as a young biologist. Bio majors, however, are not in this alone, think of history majors or geography majors - what can they do with their four year degrees, practically nothing. But anyway, that's my little spiel.

yes to medical school is an option, but many do not get there. And reality is that most are not top ranked professors who get huge salaries. Then basically it is just lab / teaching then?
