There are some monitor lizards in the Southeast Asian rainforest biome, I believe. There are also some in the chaparral biome of Australia, such as the perentie, a monitor lizard. Desert scrubland basically. It does vary by species, but in Indonesia there are some and that is more or less tropical forests biome.

It depends on the species. There isn't just one animal called 'the monitor lizard' - there are numerous monitor lizard species, found in various habitats from deserts to jungles.
