Dopamine and norepinepherine. The exact action of Ritalin is not known as to why it helps ADHD, but it is a dopamine and norepinepherine reuptake inhibitor, which means it keeps more dopamine (and norepinepherine) in the brain's synapses instead of having them be absorbed into the capillaries to the blood stream from the brain's capillaries.
