The refrigerant, freon-12 (CCl2F2) is produced by reacting carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) with SbF3. How many grams of freon-12 can be produced by reacting 10.00 g of CCl4 with 10.00 g of SbF3?

3 CCl4(l) + 2 SbF3(l)  3 CCl2F2(l) + 2 SbCl3(s)

Molecular weight CCl4 = 153.8 g/mol
10.00 g / 153.8 = 0.0650 mole CCl4

Molecular weight SbF3 = 178.7 g/mol
10.0 g / 178.7 = 0.0559 mole SbF3

The ratio between CCl4 and SbF3 is 3 : 2
3 : 2 = 0.0650 : x
x = 0.0433 mole SbF3
We have 0.0599 mole of SbF3 > 0.0433 so SbF3 is in excess and the limiting reactant is CCl4
Since the ratio between CCl4 and CCl2F2 is 3 . 3 we would get 0.0650 mole CCl2F2
molecular weight = 120.89 g/mol
120.89 g/mol x 0.0650 = 7.86 g of freon-12 produced
