If an exceedingly large number of phage are plated on a dense lawn of sensitive cells confluent lysis will occur: however, there will be a small number of bacterial colonies (less than 100) growing on such a plate. What would be a reasonable explanation for the appearance of these colonies?

They are likely resistant to the phage or the phage is in its lysogenic cycle, so the cell bursting doesn't occur right away because the virus is dormant - just a guess Thinking Face

I was thinking that the bacterial cells which are not attacked by phages will form colonies. And phages which undergo lysogenic cycle will not kill its host cells so the the bacteriail cells will survive and form colonies. But I'm really sure.
