(12a^(7/5)) / 3a = 4a^(2/5)   HOW?? I know 12a divided by 3a will be 4a but 7/5 divided by what equals 2/5? how did they get 2/5??!!!

heres another one.

15a^(4/3) / 3a =5a^(1/3) HOW DID THEY GET 1/3 if there is no fraction with 3a??/

You're looking at this slightly wrong...

Think about this:  4a^x / a^y = 4a^(x-y), which is exactly what you have when you divide numerator and denominator by 3.

Here your x = 7/5 and your y = 1 (or 5/5), so x - y = 2/5, which gives you your 4a^(2/5)

Second one do the same, divide numerator and denominator by 3 to give:

15a^(x) / 3a^y =5a^(x - y).  Here your x = 4/3 and y = 1.  4/3 - 1 = 1/3, so:

15a^(4/3) / 3a =5a^(1/3)

Hope that helps Slight Smile
