The eukaryotic cell had to take in other little prokaryotes into itself to perform different functions as its organelles, like mitochondria and chloroplast, so the eukaryotic cell benefits because it gets energy and food from the little prokaryotes, and the little prokaryotes benefit by getting protection. They evolved to become the organelles in the eukaryotic cells today.

It's basically that a large anaerobic prokaryote engulfed a small aerobic prokaryote which became the mitochondrion and we were the anaerobic prokaryote which became eukaryotic.
