Homogeneous measnt eh same throughout (from the Latin).  Homozygous refers to chromosomes that have the same genes or genes that have the same alleles (HOMO=same, ZYGO=seed, from the Greek).

If you're homozygous for a trait, you have inherited two copies (mom and dad) of the same gene. Homogenous just means similar sets of genes among individuals or species. As for the roots of the words, I'm clueless.
