when one would think that staph being gram positive would be more easily killed by ethyl alcohol and therefore have more zone of inhibitions that E-coli which is gram negative.

Ethyl alcohol is used as a antiseptic, for cleaning surfaces. I have noted no differences in killing gram positive or gram negative organisms on surfaces.

The differences in zone of inhibitions may have to do with the strains of E. coli or Staph used.

the gram value is of no consequence, Staph has no "capsul" whereas e-coli does
