Hello,

You basically have to find the straight-chain alkane, meaning row of carbons, that have the same number of carbons as 3-methylpentane. 3-methylpentane means that there is a methyl group (1 carbon) attached to the third carbon on a pentane (5 carbons). In total, you have 1 carbon + 5 carbons = 6 carbons. Hexane is the 6-carbon alkane. An isomer merely indicates that you have the same atoms, but different structure. <<
